The burden of third world debt

Oxfam International Advocacy strives to persuade governments, and institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund to agree a comprehensive, coordinated, and sustainable solution to the debt problem of the poorest countries. This includes changes in World Bank policies to increase poor peopležs control over productive resources to ensure that poor women, as well as men, will benefit.

0I advocacy work is especially concerned about the effects of debt on poor countries' health and education services. We will continue to press for World Bank policies and procedures to set objectives to increase access to, and improve the quality of, basic health and education, and for an end to the practice of charging poor people fees for using these services.
