Oxfams around the world fund many emergency and development projects. In emergencies, Oxfams respond to save lives and to restore hope. We work, where possible, with local organisations to rehabilitate communities and learn the lessons that can prevent future disasters. Development projects are targeted at the poorest people in both urban and rural communities. Grants are often small - for water and sanitation; capital for small businesses; farming tools or seeds for health and education. Oxfam International believes that, with the right support, people can improve their lives for themselves. Project examples:
